Hazardous Waste Division

Our Hazardous Waste Division is one of the industry leaders in the transportation of hazardous materials.  This division primarily operates in a 22-state area east of the Rocky Mountains, although we are permitted to operate in all 48 states of the continental U.S. and Canada.

Contractors in this division haul general freight and hazardous waste materials between the East Coast and Southwestern portions of the U.S.  These locations include, but are not limited to:  Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Southeastern Texas.  We are permitted to haul general commodity freight and specialize in hauling industrial hazardous waste, mainly in 55-gallon drums.

Driver Requirements:

  • Must be 23 years of age
  • Must have a Class A CDL with Haz Mat Endorsement
  • No more than two (2) moving violations within the last three (3) years
  • No more than one (1) accident with the last three (3) years
  • No DUI convictions within the last five (5) years
  • Eighteen (18) months of verifiable tractor and trailer experience within the last three (3) years
  • No more than five (5) employment changes during the last three (3) years
  • Pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen
  • Must posses a valid DOT Medical Certificate AND Medical Examiner’s Certificate
  • Must pass Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)
  • No facial hair for proper respirator fit

  • Ohio
  • Northern Pennsylvania (Along the I-80 corridor)
  • New Jersey (Newark and Bridgeport area)
  • Connecticut (Bristol/Hartford area)
  • Massachusetts (Boston/Braintree area)
  • Western Kentucky
  • Tennessee
  • Arkansas (El Dorado area)
  • Texas (Houston area)

Terminal Locations:

  • Columbiana, Ohio
  • Chicago, Illinois

Tractor Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a federal inspection.  Inspection must be done within thirty (30) days prior to lease agreement.  No age requirement if the inspection passes.
  • Dart Trucking Company will provide unit numbers, signs and permits
  • Provided a preventative maintenance schedule

Orientation and Training:

  • Paid orientation consisting of one (1) day in Columbiana, Ohio. Paid $80.00 for the day
  • Paid Haz WOPER training consisting of five (5) days in Columbiana, Ohio. Paid $80.00 per day

Compensation Package:

  • Independent contractors are compensated at a rate of 75.0% of 100.0% of the billed gross
  • Independent contractors are compensated at a rate of 75.0% of the billed rate for demurrage time when properly executed
  • Independent contractors are compensated at a rate of 100.0% of 100.0% of the billed fuel surcharge rate. Rates vary per customer
  • The earning potential for independent contractors is between $4,000.00 to $4,500.00 to the truck per week.

Home Time:

  • Home every 10 to 14 days

Equipment:

  • 48’ and 53’ dry vans
  • Since 85% to 90% of the loads are drop and hook, trailers must be leased through Dart Trucking Company. The lease rate for trailers is 5.0% of 100.0% of the gross

IRP and Permit Program:

  • IRP Plates, apportioned for forty-eight (48) states, are available at a rate of $31.50 per week
  • Permits for forty-eight (48) states are available at no charge
  • The following permits require a yearly fee

    Ohio Intrastate Permit (PUCO) for $30.00 per year
    Texas Intrastate Permit for $10.00 per year

Insurance:

  • Cargo coverage is required to be purchased through Dart Trucking Company.: Coverage is available at the following rates:
  • $17.95 per week with $500.00 deductible
  • $9.95 per week with $1,000.00 deductible
  • Liability coverage is required to be purchased through Dart Trucking Company. Coverage is available at the following rates:
  • $17.95 per week with $500.00 deductible
  • $9.95 per week with $1,000 deductible
  • Occupational Accident coverage is required if you do not already carry Workers' Compensation coverage. Coverage is available at the following rates:
  • Option I coverage is $36.00 per week. Please see Occupational-Accident coverage information for Option I benefits
  • Option II coverage is $47.00 per week. Please see Occupational-Accident coverage information for Option II benefits
  • Non-trucking (bobtail) and deadhead coverage is available at $8.95 per week
  • Physical damage coverage is available and is based on the value of the tractor. Please let the recruiting Department know if you would like to receive a quote

Comdata Fuel Card Program:

  • Independent contractors are issued two types of Comdata Cards
  • A Comdata Fuel Card will be issued for the purchase of fuel and oil. Currently, the cards are set for $650.00 per day. There are no Comdata fees to purchase fuel
  • A Comdata Advance Card will be issued so the Driver Manager can advance any expense money you may need while on the road. Please be aware that various Comdata fees apply

Road and Fuel Taxes:

  • Independent contractors are required to utilize Dart's New York Highway Use Tax (HUT) for $24.00 per year
  • Dart Trucking will report and pay all IFTA taxes for $12.50 per week

Incentives:

  • Bonus of $1,500 awarded after one year of employment
  • Referral bonus of $500 per driver awarded in $100 installments up to five months that the driver is employed
  • Clean Roadside Inspection Bonus of $50.00 for every clean roadside inspection
